GREAT Verification Tool! (Tutorial for beginners)

Postby CrIpPyBUdZ » Tue Mar 26, 2002 11:59 pm

I ran the registered version of AEV for the first time today.

Platform:
I dedicated a rather average server to run AEV and GEM. I'm running W2K Pro Edition on a Dell Poweredge 1400 W/ 256 RDRAM one P3 processor at only about 900 and SCSI drives. The only software on the server is IE-5, GEM/AEV, and CoffeeCup's free 'expresso' (a real fast easy ftp program). It's a new clean server install. I have a good cable connection that averages about 500k up and 1.3 down. I am going through a fairly slow SOCKS 4 proxy.

Process:
At first I started by maxing out the amount of threads and the timeout was at about 20 or 30 whatever the default is, and had too much timeout. So I restarted with only 50 threads, set the timeout to 180 and began increasing threads by 10 about every 4 minutes.

My two cents... :D
Good and fast! I was able to get 200 threads without any time out at all. One of the best things about this program is that it picks up right where it left off even if you do manage to crash it or if you just need to stop it. The list I was verifying was a raw junky list that was pulled from a search engine address collector. About 30% of the list was bad. Still no problem with memory loss or "spamkludges". Was able to check 30,000 in 90 minutes. I think that's pretty darn good.

Sure would like to see the ability to add numerous SOCKS connections. Is that possible?

Note: :!: It is important to change the default email address located in 'Settings' / 'SMTP Settings' / Mail FROM: mailto:verify@email.com
Very important as this address has been blocked by many servers including, AltaVista, Email.com, and many others.

The ability to add numerous SOCKS connections is implemented in the new version of the AEV. To take it into effect, you should create in the AEV directory the socks.txt file which contains a list of socks proxy servers in the next format:

209.*.*.29:1080 Level: 4
211.*.*.130:1080 Level: 4, 5
210.*.*.35:1080 Level: 4, 5
64.*.*.41:1080 Level: 4

Then, check the 'Use Socks proxy server' option in the Socks Settings window. You can specify your socks IP in the Address field or you can leave this field blank. Practically there is no difference. If this field contains an IP, the program will use it together with the proxies from your socks.txt file. If this field is blank, the AEV will work only with proxies from the socks proxy list. As soon as the AEV finds the socks.txt file in its directory, it will automatically turn on the option to work with multiple socks proxy connections. The program will take by random a socks proxy server from this list and use it when checking an email address.

This option is extremely useful if you would like your several socks proxy servers to be equally loaded. So, in this case it will increase the speed of checking the email addresses.

How to create your own socks proxy list with Advanced Administrative Tools (http://www.glocksoft.com/aatools.htm):

You need to find socks proxy servers that allow connection to the port 25.

1) First of all you should correctly configure the Socks Proxy Analyzer. For this purpose, you need any SMTP server which you can find in the SMTP column in the Email Verifier (of course, you have to load a few email addresses and start the Email Verifier to find the SMTP servers). For example, there is the SMTP mail.bla.com.

2) go back to the Proxy Analyzer and enter the SMTP server mail.bla.com in the 'Host for connecting' field and specify the port - 25.

3) click the Test button. In the window below you will see the result: the string beginning from 220 means that this SMTP server is working and can be used to check proxies.

4) check the appropriate checkbox (or all of them) depending on what protocol support (Socks 4, 4A or 5) you want to check your proxy server for.

5) click OK and then click the 'Start Scanning' button on the Proxy Analyzer Toolbar.

Getting Started With Advanced Email Verifier

Getting Started With Advanced Email Verifier

This section explains the simple and quick procedures you should follow in order to begin using the AEV.

To start work with AEV, enter a desired email address in the field Enter email address (one only): and click the Add button. It will appear in the list in the Result Window.

If you have a list of email addresses in CSV or TXT file, you may use Load option to load the whole list. For more information, please see the Loading and Saving your maillist. You can use the Threads (minimum 1 thread, maximum 200 threads) option to set up how many addresses you would like to check simultaneously. If you are using a dial-up connection, for example 56,6K modem, it is recommended to set up no more than 30 threads. Check the Timeout and set it according to your preferences or leave as shown by default if you are not familiar with networking essentials.

For correct work of the program, you should configure the Connection Settings. As the Primary and Secondary DNS you may use your ISP's DNS shown in the Windows DNS Settings window. In the Domain Name for HELO type your domain, for example hotmail.com. The Mail FROM field must contain your valid email address.

The verification results will be shown in the Result Window as a table with the following fields: Email address, Location, SMTP Server, Verifying Result, Last Verifying Attempt. You can sort the listings by clicking the header (Email address and Verification result only). Location shows the country information about the particular email address. SMTP server shows the name of the server which the current address belongs to. Verifying Result shows the result of the operation and Last Verifying Attempt shows the time when the email address was last checked.

WARNING!

You cannot check emails from such domains as @home.com, *@yahoo.com and other large free ISPs and intranets such as AOL, CompuServe, MSN and Prodigy because their SMTP servers receive all messages for any users and after that find the user and if the user is absent, the servers create a message with error and send it to you. Therefore these emails cannot be defined without sending a message in principle and any checked email address from these domains will be marked as "Good". So to speed up the checking (do not waste time for checking such email addresses because they will be marked as "Good") you can simply set the rule in the Rules Settings: all the email addresses for this domain are valid.

So, AEV can't verify these emails and you have no way to check them before sending a message because this SMTP server receives and processes messages in two steps (example for @aol.com):

1. The Sender sends a message to this server, the server successfully receives it and answers to the Sender:

Code: Select all
Connecting to server mailin-01.mx.aol.com

< 220-rly-za01.mx.aol.com ESMTP mail_relay_in-za1.8; Tue, 09 Apr 2002 10:27:36 -0400

< 220-America Online (AOL) and its affiliated companies do not
< 220- authorize the use of its proprietary computers and computer
< 220- networks to accept, transmit, or distribute unsolicited bulk
< 220 e-mail sent from the internet.
> HELO hotmail.com
< 250 rly-za01.mx.aol.com OK
> MAIL FROM:<brian@hotmail.com>
< 250 OK
> RCPT TO:<john@aol.com>... Recipient ok"
...

and the sender gets the message that his email has been successfully received.

2. (This step is done only by the recipient's SMTP server. The sender is disconnected at this time). The recipient's server checks and looks for the recipient's address in its own accounts and if the address is absent, the server creates a message with the error and details about the reason of non-delivery and returns it to the Sender. You can collect all emails from returned messages and exclude them from your mail list in order not to send messages to these addresses anymore. (See the "Load Exclusion List" option from the "File" menu).

Tip:

If you get this error (500 Connection Timed Out - ...) every time when you try to verify an address, it means that your internet provider is blocking the 25 port. This happens mainly with large free ISP's and intranets such as AOL, CompuServe, MSN and Prodigy. These ISP's are set up as intranets, while the AEV needs a true internet connection in order to function properly. Most of the free ISP's such as Juno, WorldShare, EarthLink, NetZero, and others are also blocking the port 25. In this case you should either change the ISP or use an external socks proxy server. For more information, see the Proxy Server Settings.

We have just described the most simple and necessary features of the AEV to get you started. However the AEV offers much more, please read the documentation to find out more about the powerful features of the program and discover how you can customize it to fit your needs.

Difference between LOAD and IMPORT options in the AEV

Postby marisp » Sat Apr 27, 2002 10:06 pm

The AEV can work with maillists of different formats. Below is the example of a maillist, which contains: email address, name, phone and comment separated by commas.

web***ter@jpanderson.com, John Smith, 123 4564 145, comment
web***ter@antilinkstealing.f2s.com, Paul Brawn, 889 7143 564, comment test 2
visi***nic01@earthlink.com, Samanta Parson, 101 2894 992, comment test 3
virt***virginy@excite.com, Brian Wood, 774 1225 684, comment test 4

There are two options to load your data into the AEV:
1) The ‘Import’ menu – in this case the AEV will load only the email addresses from your maillist. Other data will be skipped.
2) The ‘Load’ menu – in this case the AEV will load all you data and save it to its database. But for your convenience you will see only the email addresses.

So, if you want to verify your email addresses for their validity and save other data, you should use the ‘Load’ option.

Click the ‘Load’ button on the Toolbar, select the ExampleEmail.txt file and click the Open button. The program will load your maillist and you will see your list of emails in the Result window.

--
Then start checking emails. After the program finished its work, you can save the verification results. For this purpose, please click the ‘Save’ button on the Toolbar. You will see the ‘Save Results’ window. For example, you want to save good email addresses only. Check the appropriate box. ATTENTION! Other boxes must be unchecked. (Please see the screenshot). Click OK and type the file name.

In our example this file will contain the next list of data:

web***ter@jpanderson.com, John Smith, 123 4564 145, comment
vis***onic01@earthlink.com, Samanta Parson, 101 2894 992, comment test 3
vin***may@hotmail.com, David Drazicas, 664 2135 932, comment test 5
ama***ne@hotmail.com, Keith Bowl, 478 9821 648, comment test7

I must be missing something

Postby kathyscache » Tue Feb 03, 2004 8:31 am

How the heck do I save a file after I have cleaned it? I have quite a number of files to be scrubbed, and can't seem to figure this part out. So can you take the tutorial one or two steps further and tell me how to save the good ones, not the bad ones, then get the list off the screen to start on a new list?

Thanks
Kathy

To save only good emails, look at the AEV toolbar and search for the Save button. Click a black down arrow next to this button and select Good Items. A standard screen will be displayed where you have to specify a file to save good email addresses. Or, if you click the Save button, you will see the Save Results screen. Look at the Parameters frame and check the checkbox next to Good email address just like on the screenshot above. Then click OK and a screen to select a file will be displayed.

After good emails are saved, you can clear the AEV main screen if you click Delete button on the program's Toolbar.
