cron

Postby srijand » Thu Aug 27, 2009 2:03 pm

Hi,
I've set my blog broadcast to send out a broadcast whenever there is atleast one new post. Emails are not getting sent. I understand that the solution to this is to set up a cron job. Can someone help me set one up? Should I use wp-cron or my host (hostgator)'s cron process? Thanks!

Please, check your email settings for the plugin. Go to your WP admin Panel -> G-Lock Double Opt-In -> Settings, check the "Use Custom SMTP Server" option in the Email Settings, type "localhost" as the SMTP server and enter the port 25. Leave the username and password fields empty. Then go to Blog Broadcast tab and try to send a test broadcast email to yourself to see if it is sent or not.

I'm using the custom smtp server. That's not the problem. All the other emails (test emails, subscription notifications, manual broadcasts etc) are being sent correctly. Only the automatic blog broadcasts aren't being sent, which is why I think this is a cron problem.

Please, note that a broadcast email is sent if:

1) you added the specified number of new posts to the blog since the last newsletter mailing;

and

2) you had at least 1 visitor to your blog on that day when the newsletter must be sent. That is how wp-cron works.

If the 2 conditions are executed, a broadcast email must be sent. If it is not, it seems there is a cron problem indeed.

You can send your broadcast manually if the automatic sending doesn't work.

My blog has at least one new post everyday and I've set it to broadcast when there is at least 1 new post.

Is there a way to get wp-cron to run at a certain time irrespective of whether or not someone visits a page?
If not, is it possible to do this using another cron process such as the one provided by hostgator?

Might this have something to do with the calendar on the blog broadcast general settings page? the one labled "Next broadcast will send posts from"... Do I need to select a particular date from this calendar?

Did you resolved this issue? I've got exactly the same problem (wp is hosted by hostgator, too) Alle test mails will be send, everything works fine with subscription, double-opt-in, unregistering notifications, manual broadcast. Using custom smtp, never saw one error message.

But NO broadcast will be send automatic by recent posts!

I installed "What's in cron?" Plugin and there is no entry, if the options are for post based broadcasting.

If I set it for a day of week, following entry shows up:

>> Schedule: Every 5 minutes
>> Hook: gsom_broadcast_hook

And the broadcast will be send!!!!

Ok, now it works.

First, with a specific day for broadcasting I found a cron-parameter.

Changing to "least 10 postings" no cron will appear.

After once deactivating and activating the plugin without changing any parameters, then the cron works for the "posting"-broadcast,too.

Best way to confirm is using the plugin above.

Hello,

Please, download and install the latest version of the plugin 2.3.9. The automatic email broadcast must work well in the new version.
