Can't get analytics to detect an open

Postby bbowser » Mon Jul 19, 2010 11:19 pm

I cannot get analytics to detect an opened email. It can tell me that one was sent but not that it was opened.
Steps I took to connect gmail and analytics:
Step1
I copied both r.php and r.asp to my server.
Step 2
I open an HTML docuement (that was written from web Expression 3) in Gmail.
Step 3
I click tracking and add a campaign. In the campaign dialog box I add my servers domain.
Step 4
I send the email to one address to test the system.
Step 5
I open the email and then go to the analytics web site.
End
Analytics never tells me that the email was opened. I've been at this for four hours and tried everything but nothing works. Can you tell me how this thing is support to work?

Hi,

in order to track opens you need to paste tracking image into your email. If you whish to track emails that sent from GMail you need to enable "inserting images" GMail plugin in Setting > Labs.

After that "insert image" tool will appear at GMail toolbar

Then you need to copy tracking image URL from G-Lock Analytics' campaign

And finally, insert that image into your email

Now you are ready to track opens. As you insert the tracking image, analytics records this action as open from your computer, so you need to Clear Stats before sending the email.
